Bible Text: Proverbs 11:21

In our sermon of today, we shall be looking at the life of peoples that perpetuated wickedness and the judgement of God upon them. The term wickedness is derived from the quality or state of being wicked according to the dictionary.

To be wicked simply mean to do evil or morally bad in principle or practice. Evil started from the creation through the deceptive nature of Satan on Adam and Eve by enticing them to go against the commandments of God in Genesis 2:16-17 by subtly deceiving them in Genesis 3:4-5. In general, evil is referred to as an opposition to God. The first evil was recorded in the bible in Genesis 4 and it was the story of Cain and Abel and how Cain slew his brother out of envy in Genesis 4:3-8.

When evil is perpetuated, sin is the resultant effect of it. The bible tells us in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death.

In 1 John 3:8-9, the bible also tells us that anyone that committed sin is of the devil because the devil sin from the beginning by luring the creature of God (Adam and Eve) to commit sin. So, in God redemptive plan for redeeming mankind back to the glory lost was the reason that Jesus Christ (the son of the living God) was manifested in flesh to destroy the works of the devil.

In this sermon, we shall be taking a lesson from the life of two people in the bible that perpetuated evil in the sight of God and the end of their lifes resulted in tragedy. This is the story of Jezebel and Haman.

Let's first examine the story of Jezebel, and the wickedness she did and how God's judgement was executed upon her as a result of her wickedness.

Jezebel was the wife of king in Israel known as Ahab according to 1 Kings 16:29-31. Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal who was the king of Sidonians. Her father was known as serving Baal (the sun-god) and Jezebel's father Ethbaal and king Ahab were politically connected and hence bring about the marriage between Ahab and Jezebel. As a result of that, Jezebel persuaded her husband king Ahab to promote the worship of deities known as Baal and Asherah among the people of Israel thereby breaking the commandments of God to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 5:6-9.

This Jezebel exterminated the prophets of the Lord according to 1 Kings 18:4 and ensured that the prophets of her Baal worshipper were completely nourished and fed at her table in 1 Kings 18:19. She did not only kill the prophets of the Lord, she also kill an innocent man named "Naboth" because of greed by her husband to acquire Naboth's vineyard in 1 Kings 21:7-11.

At the climax of her wickedness, Jezebel met her tragic death disgracefully by being thrown from a high window and the bible narrated her end in 2 Kings 9:30-37 that even at her death, she was eating up by dogs.

This is to tell us that no matter how long a wicked person may live and perpetuated wickedness, nevertheless he or she will not go unpunished according to the Word of the Lord.

I pray for you that the Almighty God will arise concerning your situations and anyone perpetuating wickedness on you and your family will be disgraced like Jezebel in Jesus Name. Amen!

The second character to look at is the story of Haman who passionately hated the Jews for being children of God. He would have been the first person to be noted for carrying out the holocaust against the Jews who resides in the Kingdom of King Ahasuerus according to Esther 3:5-6. So, he masterminded a plot to kill all the Jews in Esther 3:8-10.

As a result of the predeterminate counsel of the Most-High God, the death of the Jews was averted. The end of the story is that Haman who planned to destroy the children of God even Mordecai in Esther 5:13-14 was hanged in the gallows he prepared for Mordecai in Esther 7:9-10. The crux of the matter is that the wicked will not go unpunished.

I decree to you that every gang up against your progress in life shall be brought to nought in Jesus Name. That enemy or enemies of yours that has vowed upon your destiny and the destines of your children shall be brought down by the angel of the living God suddenly in the Name of Jesus. So shall it be in Jesus Name. Amen!

What are the lessons to be learnt from this Sermon?

There are a lot of lessons, but will briefly touch on few of them.

1. God hates wicked people Psalms 11:5-6 and will rain snares fire and brimstone and horrible tempest as a punishment to them.

2. A wicked person will not go unpunished. Proverbs 11:21

3. God will not leave His children in the hands of the wicked. Psalms 37:32-33.

4. There is no rest for the wicked Isaiah 48:22

In conclusion, David said to God to search him to see if there is any wickedness in him and to lead him in the way everlasting according to Psalms 139:23-24. Every child of God must be able to come to his father to ask this question and to seek for pardon as it may be possible to be perpetuating wickedness in our thoughts and we may not take it serious as something that God hates.

Let us pray!

Our Dear Heavenly Father, we come boldly to the throne of grace and we ask that you search us and see if there be any wickedness in us, we ask that it be remove from us in Jesus Name. Amen!
